Year 6 - Holdenby House Trip
We are pleased to inform you that the children will be taking part in an exciting educational visit to Holdenby House on Monday 18th May 2026. This visit will support their learning in History through a fully immersive Evacuee Experience Day.
Evacuee Experience Day
During the visit, the children will step back in time to 1942, when Britain was in the midst of the Second World War. Upon arrival, they will be received at the Holdenby Evacuee Centre and take part in a range of hands‑on workshops led by costumed characters:
Activities include:
- Food Rationing: Learning about weekly rations and preparing seasonal wartime food.
- Make-Do-and-Mend: Exploring how clothing was repaired, reused and repurposed during the war.
- Air Raid Precautions: Finding out about air raid shelters, gas masks, and safety procedures.
After lunch, the children will enjoy a traditional wartime sing-along before being collected by their “host families”.
Cost, Consent & Payment Deadline
The cost of the trip is £12 per child, payable via Arbor. Payment via Arbor will also act as your consent for your child to attend. Please ensure payment is made by Friday 13th March 2026. This payment deadline is in line with the venue’s cancellation policy. If there are insufficient contributions, the trip may be cancelled and refunds can be honoured.
Travel Arrangements
The children will be travelling by MAT Minibuses.
- Departure from Gossey Lane: approximately 8:30am
- Departure from Holdenby House: 2:00pm
- Expected return to Gossey Lane: approximately 3:00pm
Due to the earlier departure time, the children can attend Breakfast Club from 8:00am on the morning of the trip.
Lunch
Children will need to bring a packed lunch, unless they are in receipt of Free School Meals, in which case a lunch will be provided by school.
Clothing
The teacher would like the children to come to school dressed as an evacuee, if possible, to help them fully immerse themselves in the experience.
